“Whilst I work in a variety of metals and materials I have a special love for copper. The endlessly recyclable metal has so many magical properties and uses, not least of which is its beauty.
Copper’s colour and malability lends itself perfectly to my organic way of working and as I reference the natural world in all of my pieces I can achieve the textures and finishes I need whilst working copper with heat and hammer by hand.
The partnership of copper and vitreous enamel is an elegant and exciting one. The glass finish on copper is sleek and beautiful and can be layered in a kaleidoscopic array of colour. From subtle, metallic transparent washes to bursts of strong opaques. Introducing enamel colour to my practice has been like opening a glorious paintbox, the surfaces are beautiful and although delicate, surprisingly durable.”
